Drumming Circle July 2022

Drumming Circle

A few years ago I knew I wanted to run a circle, I didn’t know what circle, I actually thought it would be women’s health related, but I wasn’t sure. I put the intention out there and waited for the right opportunity to arise.

In 2018 I did some training, and within that training a frame drum was used within a treatment. I was instantly hooked and have been drummed over many times since. I attended a few drumming circles, most were quite a drive, but I loved the sensations and power of drumming within a group. I wanted to play more, but couldn’t find anything local.

Lockdown came, and more opportunities came about, I joined a couple of drumming groups on line and being quite non musical slowly got my confidence in playing in groups via zoom. I initially drummed on my legs, then moved to a big water bottle, and eventually bought my own frame drum.

I began to realise anyone could play, just play what you are drawn to play, follow your heart, in fact follow your heart beat. The more you play, the more confidence you get to play.

Over the last year I have been to quite a few drumming circles, birthed my own drum and had many conversations with Lucy @ MSCM (where I tutor), about running a drumming circle. One day we knew it was the right time, got some dates together and the first July date was launched on line one Friday, it was sold out within a day!

That July date was last Thursday, we met at Mandara in West Harrow where the circle was taking place and slowly set up our altar. This was a really lovely experience, watching it come together with items we had both bought in, flowers, goddesses, crystals, rosewood, oracle cards etc. The altar was added to when our participants arrived, with items they had also bought in with them to take home after the evening.

After cleansing the space, and opening the circle, we had a short breathing practice to settle us in.

Then we were off.

Our first drum. We had a mixture of people who had never drummed before, in fact never held a drum before, alongside experienced drummers of years. You could feel an excitement in the air.

We started drumming. That first drum was exceptional, the power, the intensity, the energy, blew me away. I was not expecting this power on our first drum …. drop all expectations!

We stopped drumming and let the silence immerse us,  the energy was intense, pins and needles all over my body, joy in my heart, smiles around the room.

WOW.

From that moment on we were off, we drummed for the earth, we drummed for healing, we drummed for joy, we drummed for gratitude.

We had  love, we felt held, supported, we were a connected group of women for 2 hours, we had fun.

This evening was just so much more than I could ever have asked for, was such a pleasure to be running this with Lucy in the most beautiful healing space of Mandara.

Anyone can drum, you need no experience, just an open heart.

We have a few spare drums in our circle and also shakers too which are joyful and uplifting. We are running this circle monthly in West Harrow, all dates up to July 2023 are available to book now, including our Winter Solstice circle in December.

Our August circle was sold out by 11am the following morning after our first circle, so I think last Thursday was a huge success.
